Governor Robert Bentley is pushing for a vote on a state lottery in Alabama, what do you think?

$25 million dollars annually, that's what the governor projects will the be the annual rake in from having a lottery. The plan calls for that cash to put into the general fund.

Those in favor point out how the lottery is good for the economy and would help deliver much needed money into the state's budget. Besides, similar programs in the neighboring states of Florida, Georgia and Tennessee have lottery programs which have been beneficial.

Those who are against it say things like, "gambling consistently falls short of expectations, and the social costs outweighs the benefits," as argued by Joe Godfrey, executive director of the Alabama Citizens Action Program in 2015.

It is quite possible that residents of Alabama will soon get the final say in a vote to pass or turn down a lottery.

I'm curious to know how you feel about it...
