The University of Alabama's Arboretum is hosting a special event, and you're invited to attend! The UA Arboretum's annual Open House will be held Saturday, August 27, 2016 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

You'll be able to check out the Arboretum and learn more about this incredible facility. Light refreshments will be served, and you'll be able to take a guided tour of the Arboretum.

If you've never been to the Arboretum before, make this the weekend to check it out! The University of Alabama Arboretum is like a little nature reserve right here in Tuscaloosa; it's a place where you can learn more about plants, wildlife, and the delicate balance of our own ecosystem. Here's more about the Arboretum from its website:

The University of Alabama Arboretum maintains plant collections for botanical education and appreciation. The Arboretum features walking trails through a native woodland section, a wildflower garden, a collection of ornamental plants, an experimental garden, and a children’s garden. Most of the Arboretum’s land was donated by the federal government to help support the University’s goals of promoting research and providing public education and service. Today the Arboretum is part of a national network that shares plant information with scientists, students and the public.

The Arboretum is sponsored by the Department of Biological Sciences in the College of Arts & Sciences at The University of Alabama.  The UA Arboretum is an affiliate of The University of Alabama Museums and cooperates with museum staff on education and outreach programs.

The University of Alabama Arboretum is located at 4801 Arboretum Way in Tuscaloosa. From McFarland Boulevard, head east on Veteran's Memorial Parkway, and then follow the signs for the Arboretum. It's past the VA Hospital and the old UA Golf Course.
