The wait is almost over. Excitement and nervous energy builds as we approach the third running of the Tuscaloosa Half Marathon Saturday morning! Plus, the one-mile Fun Run and the new 5K race.

I've had March 7th circled on my calendar for months. On just about any run, this race crossed my mind and the need to be trained for the challenge. Three years ago this was my first half marathon, which came on the heels of starting up competitive and consistent running for the first time since high school. Looking back, I remember being worried if I would be able to finish or if I would get injured or have some other problem on the course. I'll tell you, crossing that finish line was such an amazing feeling.

Now, a couple of years later, I'm excited to get another chance to have a better showing and reach a new personal best for a time. Besides, running a longer distance really gives you a unique opportunity to really see the city on foot.

I hear people say they find running boring and can't get motivated. Try creating a playlist of songs to run with or get a friend to join you. Track your runs with an app like RunKeeper, so you can  track your progress. The cool thing with this app, it's social. Meaning, you can connect with other friends and see each other's work outs. I'm on there, if you want to connect (gregthomasdj). Another must, sign up for at least one race, it will serve as a motivating goal to get moving so you're ready.

Saturday could be the perfect starting point for you! Try the 1 or 3 mile course and run for a purpose. Yeah, you can join us to help #BeatAuburn and raise money for the Kiwanis Club of Greater Tuscaloosa and for Read Bama Read!
