Remember when it was announced that Sumter County Sheriff Tyrone Clark Sr. was under investigation? Well, Attorney General Luther Strange has started impeachment proceedings against him.

Clark is accused of corruption and neglect of duty, as he is said to have helped an inmate bring contraband into the Sumter County jail, taken pay from inmates in an unauthorized work-release program, and tried to coerce a female employee into sex.

It was suggested by a grand jury in April that Clark be removed from office, and the case was sent to the Attorney General's office. Strange has announced that the Alabama Supreme Court will determine Clark's fate.

An investigation continues, and any criminal charges will be considered separately.
