The National Weather Service office in Birmingham has issued a Wind Advisory for our West Alabama listening area through Wednesday morning. Plus, an update on the potentially heavy rainfall.

As the area braces for heavy rainfall associated with a cold front pushing through, windy conditions can be expected, with some stronger gusts up to 35 mph possible.

Statement from the National Weather Service:

... Wind Advisory remains in effect until 6 am CST Wednesday...

* timing... this evening through 6 am early Wednesday morning.

* Winds... southeast winds around 20-25 mph with gusts up to 35
mph... especially in the higher elevations.

* Impacts... driving may become difficult... especially in higher
elevations. Small objects may also be blown around if not
secured. Weaker trees and small limbs and branches could fall.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Wind Advisory means that sustained winds of 25 mph... or gusts up
to 35 mph are expected. Winds this strong can make driving
difficult... especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra
caution.

The overnight Tuscaloosa area forecast from the National Weather Service:

Showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 4am. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Low around 64. Breezy, with a southeast wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%.

For Wednesday: Showers and thunderstorms before noon, then showers likely. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Temperature falling to around 58 by 5pm. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph decreasing to 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%.

The good news out of this forecast, the threat for tornado activity is very low at this time around the area.
