Should Alabama Have a Lottery? [POLL]

Alabama is one step closer to having a state lottery. Al.com reports that a bill that would allow Alabamians to vote on the issue passed its first obstacle Wednesday; the House Economic Development and Tourism Committee passed the bill. The bill will then move to the House; the Alabama State Legislature will vote on it at a later date.

Representative Alan Harper, a Republican from Northport, proposed the bill; if passed, it would amend the state constitution which currently prohibits lotteries.

Supporters say an Alabama lottery would generate much-needed revenue for the state; a recent report stated the lottery could bring an estimated $400 million to the state. Those who oppose a lottery feel it would be detrimental to the families of those with gambling addictions.
