Here we are closing out 2014 with our last B101.7 Flashback Friday Spotlight for the year, driven by Townsend Honda. How time flies, do you realize it has been 15 years since we began a new millennium? That was a crazy time with all the fears of crippling worldwide computer failures. It wasn't the average flip of the calendar to a new year. It was the beginning of a new millennium. We tap into that anxious energy and excitement this week.

In 1999, Jennifer Lopez captured the moment with 'Waiting For Tonight.' The song may have lyrics about being lost in love and craving to be back in the arms of that special someone.

Those lyrics could play into slow, soft and sappy music. Not here, it's almost Y2K. DJ crank up that dance beat and let J-Lo dance to neon laser beams in the middle of the tropical rain forest. I like song and video seizes the moment.  I'm not really sure what solo dance scenes in the rain forest with neon lights are all about. But, we'll go with it. Producers knock it out of the park by showing a crowd watching a giant clock tick down to the new year. Midnight hits and the power goes out. Oh no! It's the end of the world. Oh wait, the power is back on and the sign is glowing 2000! Alright, pop the champagne and party your butt off, we survived!

Prepare yourself for the light show with the video below:

Since we are talking about New Year's songs and Y2K, you can't overlook Prince's '1999.' All the way back in 1982, doom and gloom was being predicted for 2000. Just think, this was a time when computers took up the space of massive storage rooms. So, fears of calendar crashes on millions of computers was far from a concern back then. Still, there was a science-fiction like mystique to the year.

Prince's apocalypse song '1999' says lets party with these lyrics:

There were people runnin' everywhere
Tryin' to run from the destruction
You know I didn't even care

'Cause they say two thousand zero zero
Party over, oops out of time
So tonight I'm gonna party like it's 1999

See the steamy hot and very purple video below (I bet Barney the dinosaur likes it, with all that purple):

Any New Year's is a big deal, as we look forward to a fresh start with hopes and dreams for bigger and greater things. I wish you those things and so much more. Thanks for a fantastic 2014 and I look forward to sharing 2015 with you!
