Oh yeah, we now have a meaningful reason why we must all indulge in Dairy Queen Blizzard ice cream greatness on Thursday (July 28). It's 'Miracle Treat Day' benefiting our own Children's of Alabama!

That's right, across Alabama and the nation Thursday, Dairy Queen has pledge to donate $1 from each Blizzard sold to Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. This includes the one right here in our backyard, up I-20/59 in Birmingham. We get to laugh off calorie counts, as we feel good about supporting the fund saving lives of children treated at 170 children’s hospitals in the U.S. and Canada. Last year $38,000 was donated, since its inception in 1984, $115 million!

The two area Dairy Queen locations are participating in 'Miracle Treat Day':

  • Tuscaloosa: Highway 69 South in Tuscaloosa (near Publix)
  • Northport: McFarland Boulevard (near Northport DCH).

As hot as it has been, I think we could all go for a blast of cold with a Blizzard ice cream, while we help out a tremendous cause.

The question then becomes which flavor will you go for?

I'm all kinds of way all about the Oreo DQ Blizzard.  It's really rare that I will ever stray away from home base of this favored flavor of greatness.  Actually, the last time I went for one the nice lady at register asked if interested in this new fudge blasted version.  That sounded good, but... nah!

What's your favorite Blizzard flavor?
