Meet Harmony, the 1 ½-year-old German Shepherd mix who is our B101.7 Pet of the Week with the Humane Society of West Alabama. Come along, as I spend time getting to know this friendly girl.

Harmony has a thick black and tan coat, but is leaner than most Shepherds. The Humane Society is not sure what she is mixed with. This young lady comes in at 41 pounds, and is full-grown.

The story behind Harmony, she was pulled from our local animal shelter, where she was found as a stray. Then she was adopted out, picked up by Animal Control, owner reclaimed, picked up by Animal Control again, but the owner did not come down to reclaim her after over a month of being down there. The Humane Society pulled her out to help find a forever home for her.

Harmony is very friendly, playful and sociable. She does have a pretty high energy level, so she would make a great running or walking partner. She also likes to be with you and lean on you – likes to make contact with you to make sure you are there!

The Humane Society believes Harmony will require a fenced in yard, and probably has too much energy to live in an apartment. They also think that she should be fine with older children ages 12 and up, just not younger due to Harmony still being jumpy with excitement. Another observation, Harmony likes to be the dominant dog and may do better as an only dog or properly introduced. The Humane Society would like to do a trial if other pets are in the household.

The shelter volunteers are working on her crate training. Harmony is up to date on her vet care, spayed, heartworm negative and is microchipped. She is on heartworm and flea/tick prevention.

Harmony is a wonderful dog that needs a safe and secure home where she will live forever! If you are interested in giving Harmony the forever home she wants and deserves, visit the Humane Society of West Alabama website by clicking here or give them a call us at (205)554-0011.
