Charity Holiday Single Turns 30 – B101.7 Flashback Friday Spotlight

Turkey hangovers and doorbuster sales, the holiday season has arrived in Tuscaloosa! The many traditions of the season are back, including dusting off our favorite songs. Bright and cheerful, right? One reminds us of those less fortunate.

"Do They Know its Christmas?" is in the spotlight for this B101.7 Flashback Friday, driven by Townsend Honda. The mostly British all star charity single breaks up the party with a message of famine despair in Africa. An instant hit and lives on to pop up on Christmas playlists many years later.

In 2014, there is another crisis in Africa, the Ebola virus. This has led U.N. to reach out and ask about recording an updated version. The group led by original artists such as Bono, along with newcomers like One Direction and Ed Sheeran.
