Alabama Soccer to Host World Cup Final Watch Party

The Alabama soccer program will welcome Crimson Tide fans to the Alabama Soccer Complex on Sunday, July 5th for a World Cup final watch party, and will launch its new booster club, The Crimson Assist, first-year head coach Wes Hart announced. Gates will open at 4:30 p.m. to kick off an evening featuring soccer skills contests, soccer tennis, small sided games, and other soccer themed activities. The World Cup final is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. and will be shown on the scoreboard at the Soccer Complex. Admission for the event is free.

“I’m excited to open the doors of our stadium and offer fans their first glance at our new-look program,” said Hart. “This is such an exciting time for soccer – specifically Alabama soccer – and I’m looking forward to sharing that with our fans.”

The Alabama soccer program will also unveil its new booster club, The Crimson Assist, an organization created to support students on the soccer team achieve both their academic and athletic goals.

“I’m thrilled to launch The Crimson Assist,” said Hart. “I’ve already seen an overwhelming amount of support from the Alabama community and cannot wait to see that translate into success.”

Alabama was well represented at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup as former Tide standout Merel van Dongen, and current Tide student-athlete Celia Jimenez Delgado, were both selected as participants for their respective nations. Van Dongen (Netherlands) and Jimenez Delgado (Spain) became the first student-athletes in the history of the Alabama women's soccer program to appear at the Women's World Cup.

"Having two players from the University of Alabama representing their countries at the World Cup is incredible," said Hart. "This truly speaks volumes about the level of soccer players we have, and will continue to develop here at Alabama."

The United States National Team is just one win away from reaching the World Cup final, as it will square off against Germany tonight for a spot in the championship match. Tonight’s semifinals clash will be held at Olympic Stadium in Montreal at 6 p.m. CT on Fox Sports 1. Japan and England will play the second semifinal match on Wednesday.
